STILL STATELESS

Back in Myanmar Rohingya were denied citizenship, systematically denied education after 2012 and even had to ask for government permission to marry. All of this before the ethnic violence, organized rape campaigns, military raids and burning of entire villages.

Over a million Rohingya now struggle inside a limbo state in southern Bangladesh. Seemingly the reward for surviving the violence is to endure continued statelessness, exclusion from formal education and employment and a life of subsistence on international aid.
